In late June 2026, the Department released the 2024-25 Financial Report on the Australian Aged Care Sector, along with a data extract bringing together headline figures for easy comparison. The report sets out how the sector performed financially over the 2024-25 financial year, giving every Care Provider a benchmark to measure their own results against.
The report shows net profit before tax across the sector rose to $891.5 million, an increase of $480.6 million on the previous year, equivalent to $12.21 per resident per day. The proportion of providers reporting a positive NPBT position increased 3.1 percentage points to 62 per cent.
At the same time, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation fell to $32.43 per resident per day, a decrease of $3.18 on the prior year. The report states that providers continued to use care margins in 2024-25 to cross-subsidise losses in other areas, particularly accommodation and everyday living costs. Around 67 per cent of sector revenue came from government subsidies.
These figures give Care Providers a sector-wide reference point for their own financial position, including per-resident revenue and costs, NPBT, and the balance between care, accommodation and everyday living margins.
Benchmarking against this data depends on having accurate, current figures to compare it with. Where financial reporting is spread across multiple systems, or reconciliation is done manually, producing a clean and up-to-date picture of per-resident revenue and costs takes more time and is more prone to error. This can delay reporting and reduce confidence in the comparison.
Care Systems provides an integrated financial and asset management solution built specifically for the aged care sector. The general ledger, AP and purchasing, GST/BAS and asset register modules operate within a single connected system, rather than as separate platforms that need to be reconciled together. This means NPBT, per-resident costs and margin positions across care, accommodation and everyday living can be produced directly from the system, without a separate reconciliation step.
Care Systems’ financial and asset management modules also integrate with the Client Management, Employee Management, and Compliance Reporting modules within the same platform, so financial data reflects the same underlying records used for billing, subsidy calculations, rostering, payroll and compliance reporting such as Care Minutes, QFR, ACFR and AN-ACC. Reporting can be extended through Power BI integration and customisable Excel-based reporting, allowing Care Providers to build the specific comparisons they need against sector data such as this report.
Care Systems has supported the Australian aged care sector for over 40 years, with solutions used by organisations ranging from small facilities to providers with over 1,800 beds, across residential care, home care, independent living and NDIS settings. Support is provided by a local Australian team.
