Government’s Response to the Aged Care Taskforce

Dec 19, 2024 | Reform

In March 2024, the Aged Care Taskforce released its final report containing 23 recommendations aimed at building a fairer and more sustainable aged care system. On 12 September, the government issued its response, endorsing many of the proposed reforms.

Key Aspects of the Response Include:
  • Enhanced support for residential care and in-home services.
  • Adjustments to accommodation payments and residential care contributions.
  • Transitional arrangements to ensure that older Australians in residential care as of 30 June 2025 are not disadvantaged.

The government’s “no worse off” principle ensures that existing aged care recipients will not face higher contributions due to the changes. Transitional measures will also apply to those in the Support at Home program, providing financial certainty during the shift to the new framework.
